Brought to you by: Fugitive Productions
Event Details
Folk Baroque explores the counterpoint and connections between Baroque music and traditional music from around the world. We perform on period instruments (fiddle, Baroque viola, and Baroque 'cello) to share music old and new, from a variety of traditions. Our concerts offer up anything from Bach to ragtime, and centuries-old fiddle tunes to our own compositions.
Folk Baroque recently appeared as featured chamber ensemble of Classical Uprising's 2023 Portland Bach Festival. Upcoming performances include the SwitchArts chamber music series in Rhode Island and the Massachusetts Suzuki Festival in Concord, MA.
Daniel Rowe, Baroque 'cello, divides his time between performing as cellist and programming as a software engineer. He has performed with the American Repertory and Huntington Theatre companies, including world premiere runs of three Philip Glass operas. and toured extensively with tenor Mario Frangoulis, with whom he appeared in the series Jazz at LincolnCenter. He is co-principal cellist of the Providence Baroque Orchestra, and performs regularly with the Renaissance group “Renaissonics,” who have toured in the United States, France, Italy, and Taiwan.
Joy Grimes, Baroque violin / fiddle, is a versatile performer and teacher of violin and viola. Her performances range from Irish traditional music to Baroque and contemporary classical music. Highlights of her performing career include touring Japan with Cambridge Concentus (MA); serving as principal violist of the Orchestra of the Southern Tier (NY); touring Ireland with the band West O'Clare; and exploring historic instruments such as the treble viol, rebec, and pardessus de
viol.
Emily Rideout, Baroque viola, enjoys an active and varied performing career, on both modern and Baroque viola.
